About the topic

Much has changed since AIDS was first recognized in 1981.  We now know that HIV-1, the cause of the AIDS epidemic, has been with us for almost 100 years.  We now have safe medicines that can effectively treat and prevent HIV infection.  We also know that it is possible to cure HIV infection.   These and other scientific advances in HIV/AIDS research, and the past, present and future of the AIDS epidemic, will be discussed in an interactive format.
